First and foremost if you are the type of person who is too tempted to utilize credit cards; by all means cut them up. However, having one credit card for emergency purposes only is a good idea. Keep that card in either a lock box at home or if you have to travel, only take it with you at the moment you walk out the door. Second, pay more than the minimum payment due each month. You may be thinking if I could have done that, I would not be in this mess. Well, the long and short of it is, by this point you have already sat down and figured out your spending habits. Therefore the extra money is now coming from cutting out the three sodas a day and the daily lunch at your favorite restaurant. Therefore, the money that you would normally spend on those items is now used towards your credit debt. What do you do when you have already cut out sodas and daily lunch runs and you are still in a credit crisis. Well, now is the time to take a look at your household expenses and cut where you feasibly can. Look at your automobile insurance policy. Is your deductible at its highest rate? Do you need collision on both vehicles? Just these two items can greatly reduce your insurance premium. Also, take a drivers education or defensive driving course. Oftentimes insurance carriers will reduce your premium by ten percent when you turn in your completion certificate. Even reducing the programming package for your television or eliminating the added features on your land phone will add money in your pocket. Granted in and of themselves the money you save may not be much, but combined you may be able to add an additional $50.00 to your credit debt payment. Finally, try not to panic during this credit crisis. Keep in mind that your perseverance will pay off. Another point to keep in mind is that you did not reach this stage of credit crisis overnight. Therefore, you will not get out of debt overnight. You will become frustrated by not being able to purchase what you want when you want. However, you will also become more financially savvy as well as debt free. |
